Hon. Dame Maureen Tamuno

HON. DAME MAUREEN PIRIBONEMI TAMUNO is the 2015 House of Representative Candidate for the Okrika/Ogu Bolo Federal Constituency, Rivers State (APC) and was a Chairman of Decoration Sub Committee of the 2015 Presidential Inauguration. She was the Executive Chairman of Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area of Rivers State and the Treasurer of ALCON Rivers State Chapter from 2011 - 2014.

 

Hon. M. Tamuno was a Member of the Rivers State House of Assembly representing Ogu/Bolo Constituency and Chairman, House Committee on Education and was also a Member of other Committees in the House from 2007 - 2011.

 

Within the period in the House of Assembly she was elected in Cameron as Nigerian Female Representative to the Commonwealth Women Parliamentary Association. Maureen Tamuno was also a Board Member of Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) from 2005 – 2007.

 

In her bid to serve humanity and as a philanthropist, she founded Lady Maureen Tamuno Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organization to care for the widows, orphans and the downtrodden in the society. She also belonged to several Non-Governmental Organizations such as SHEROES Foundation, she is a Member of Junior Chamber International (JCI) Nigeria, a Worldwide Leadership Organization where she held several positions such as: National Chairperson in the year 2000, for Save the Child project and mass De-worming. In various keenly contested elections, she won and became: The President, Kaduna chapter in the year 2001, National Vice President, in charge of North East in 2002, Executive Vice President, JCI (Nigeria) North Central (Area C) in 2003 and National Treasurer, JCI (Nigeria) 2004.

 

Presently she has attained the position of Senator, (the Highest Office) in Junior Chamber International (JCI) Nigeria.

 

Maureen P. Tamuno was a Deputy National Coordinator of the Nigerian State and Local Government Trade and Tourism Fair held in Abuja in the year 2000. She has received several awards amongst others Viz: Most Resourceful Person Year 2000 by JCI (Nigeria), Entrepreneurship Award for the Year 2003; Award of Excellence from the RSUST Alumni Association 2008; Awards by Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA) for Excellence in Local Governance Initiative, Best in Local Government Management & Administration; Best in Socio-Economic Development & Poverty Reduction; Best in Water, Environment & Sanitation; Second Runner-Up in 2013. ELGI Awards: Best in Rural Electrification. Other Awards received are: Award of Excellence by the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) Ogu/Bolo Branch; Award of the People Manager by Institute of Public Management Nigeria; Award of Honour by Developmental Heritage Association; Community Service Award by Rotary Club of Port Harcourt. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Public Management (FIPM); Fellow, of the Chartered Institute of Management (FCIM), Associate Member Nigerian Institute of Management (AMNIM) and Member, National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (MNIMN).

 

She has co-authored several books in Marketing and Management; also she has been a Resource Person and has attended several National and International Conferences and Workshops.

 

During her time in Office, Hon. Maureen executed numerous projects and programs, which positively impacted lives of her people and the State at large. Notably: 11.8 kilometer National Grid to Bolo community, this project is quite historical because since the inception of Bolo Community, such has not existed; the ultra modern secretariat, the water project in Elle, Civic Arena at Ogu that is severally used today, Roads, Wakanma Town Hall, and etcetera. It was also during her time as Chairman House Committee on Education at the Rivers State House of Assembly that Rivers State College of Education was upgraded to full University Status now Known as Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt.

 

She is a Seasoned and Vibrant Politician who loves aerobics, meeting and communicating with people. She is a Multilingual – she speaks Okrika, Hausa, Igbo, Efik/Ibibio and English Language.
