16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence

Dear SING members and Friends,

Our vision is a world where women are free to make choices for their socio-economic empowerment and that includes where all women live without fear of domestic violence and being attacked by strangers and harassed by male colleagues. Additionally, a world where women are protected against rape in situations of conflict; girls can be girls and are not forced into a union – early marriages; and displaced vulnerable women and girls can focus on building strength and resilience.

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that kicks off on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day. It was started by activists at the inaugural Women’s Global Leadership Institute in 1991 and continues to be coordinated each year by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership. Individuals and organizations around the world call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls, use it as an organizing strategy.

SHEROES Say No, No, No to Violence Against Women; please take this time to get more people (at work, in your homes, any gathering) to not look away but to speak up and take action.

I invite you to wear a touch of orange on December 10th in order to raise awareness for the many forms of violence that threatens women and girls all over the world and please let us support activities that protect them and bring about changes in behaviors and cultures.

Sincerely,

Flossy T. Menson
